1. How are Psychiatrist and Clinical Psychologist different?

A Psychiatrist predominantly follows a biological medical model of mental illness and treats mental illness using medication. Clinical Psychologist assess persons with mental health problems using psychodiagnostic tests and mange them using Psychotherapy and psychosocial measures of rehabilitation. A Clinical Psychologist also helps to understand what the distress is, the contributing factors, and learn skills to over the problem.

2. Do Clinical Psychologists give medicines?

Clinical Psychology believes in managing the reasons of why a patient gets an illness. For all the psychological distress, medications aren’t a must. But sometimes, if the pathology is too severe, then it is recommended for both psychotherapy and medications (prescribed by Psychiatrist).

3. How do I know when I meet a Clinical Psychologist, whether he/she is licensed or not?

Clinical Psychologists are issued a certificate (containing CRR no) by RCI authenticating them for practice shortly after they are qualified. They are required to frame this certificate or have it in their possession at their workplace all the time. A person seeking help has every right to be shown the certificate on demand.
